iHUD is an app that turns the iPhone and iPad into an educational aerospace-inspired mobile Glass Cockpit. iHUD derives its name from Head-Up Display, which depicts motion and guidance information, and data for optimal situational awareness. Imagine this information is provided by iHUD, made possible by the iPhone’s on-board accelerometer and GPS sensor.

iHUD depicts an extraordinary graphic interface with a simulated moving horizon based on the vehicles acceleration, dynamic moving speed, altitude and vertical velocity ribbons, rotating compass card, slip/skid ball, and separate accelerometer (G-meter).

iHUD is designed to be an iPhone/iPAD app for education, entertainment, and recreation.

Features:
• Augmented Reality with camera combined with iHUDs spatial motion visualization.
• Toggle between GPS and Magnetic compass for stationary and dynamic heading.
• iHUD projection mode to windshield.
• Accelerometer control slider for attitude.
• Excellent ‘Glass Cockpit’ colored graphics featuring a navigational multifunction display (MFD.
• Highly accurate and sensitive motion visualization using on-board GPS and accelerometer data.
• Displays graphically: heading, speed, un-accelerated attitude, altitude, vertical speed, slip/skid.
• Displays digitally: heading, speed, altitude, vertical speed, G-load.
• GPS accuracy indicator lights and ± value ranges.
• Weak or no GPS signal generates red colored cross-out of affected visualized data.
• User settings for metric and US standard units.
• User settings for speed ribbon range (multi-color ribbon).
• User setting for compass bug (heading bug) digitally or by moving the heading bug on-screen.
• Sophisticated accelerometer offset calibration

Limitations:
In the current version of iHUD, the horizon is not a reference horizon suitable for aircraft use, it acts like a pictorial inclinometer. An external gyro or future on-board gyro would address this situation.

No GPS data and camera on iPod touch. Magnetic compass only on iPhone 3GS and up. iOS 4.2 required. Tested up to iOS 7.x. Note that the iPAD 3G only features a GPS.

Warning:
Never use the iHUD for steering airplanes, helicopters, boats, motorcycles, and other powered vehicles, including UFOs.
